2nd Doctor Visit

I had my second appointment this morning and everything went well. My mom went with me to hear the heartbeat and Bert had class so he couldn’t make it.

I weighed and for those of you who just knew I had gained weight, my husband and mother, you were right. I am up 1.4lbs. Congratulations! You suck. :)

We got to hear the heartbeat on the doppler and the heart rate was 155. Now, we need to discuss the location of this heartbeat.

Please note the location of the vagina in the picture above. The nurse couldn’t find the heartbeat so she kept going lower and lower until she was all up in my personal space, if you know what I mean. She might as well have violated me. She found the heartbeat and in my opinion the baby was ridiculously low, like growing inside my vagina. This could cause problems. I think.

So either my baby is growing inside my va-jay-jay, or it has acquired it’s own heartbeat. Lovely.

I showed up at my appointment with my list in hand! Now if you know me in real life then you know I’m a hypochondriac. If you don’t – this is me admitting it.

hypochondriac

My mother was totally embarrassed when I whipped out the Blackberry and read the doctor my list of “ailments” as I like to call them. He laughed and I told him that I had to tell somebody because my husband wouldn’t let me call and tell him I was having a heart attack anymore. I know. He’s rude.

Let’s go over the list:

  • chest pain
  • left arm pain
  • itching
  • sore throat
  • LLQ pain – left lower quadrant pain – I abbreviated on the list!
  • palpitations

So apparently I’m pregnant! Who knew. And I’m going to live. And I won’t die of a heart attack. Please, you don’t have to worry, but thanks for the concern!

We can find out the sex of the baby at the end of October! Yay!

Also we have to decide if we want the Quad4/AFP test done. It’s a prescreen that tells you the odds of having a child with a birth defect. I need opinions. Did anyone do this?? I’m thinking it will cause unnecessary stress. Let me know what you think!

Happy Wednesday!

I LOVE you. Because you are exactly like me. They called me "Problem Child" at my OB's office because I always had a problem when I went in there. Granted, they laughed with me, but I am positive they laughed AT me when I left. The good news is they say I was still one of their favorites! After Gray was born last week, I had some serious stomach pain. Even though deep down I knew it was contractions from breastfeeding, I really wanted to call and make sure it wasn't a blood clot. I am very proud of the fact that the pain has almost subsided and I never did call! Ha!

Hilarious! :)

We didn't do any of the screening tests because we decided it wasn't worth the risk (I know it's only like a 2% risk, but still) or the stress. We also figured that if there was anything seriously wrong, the ultrasound would pick it up in enough time for us to do whatever was necessary for the baby's health. Hope that helps some! :)

This cracked me up! And you sound like me! I am the biggest hypochondriac ever! I always have a list with me at the Dr!

Love this post! Sorry I've been MIA...as you can see on my blog, we're going through some serious shit right now. Anywhooo, when I was 12 weeks, the OB was all up in my biznass because Logan was THAT low. And he stayed that low. Get ready for round ligament pain. It is a bitch and a half. It's a pulling/pinching sensation on one or both sides of your pelvic area. The only advice I have for you is to do PELVIC ROCKS EVERY EFFING NIGHT!! If I had listened to my yoga instructor, I would have saved myself a lot of discomfort. Also, to answer your last question, unless you have a history of birth defects in your families, skip it. No reason to worry even more than you already are. I too am a self-proclaimed hypochondriac.

Yay! Glad all is well!

I had the screening just cause I had two miscarriages, and I was 30. It was not a big deal-I felt a lot better after getting the results and knowing things were most likely fine. I would'nt have done anything differently if there was an issue, but I wanted to be prepared.

Wow. Like many of the other comments, I also have to say that I'm glad it wasn't just me doing that at doctor's appointments! I opted not to do the test. My thinking was number 1 the risk of complication from actually doing the test and number two, what difference would it make if there WAS something wrong with the baby? I'm having it regardless so how would know any sooner make it any different. I figured it would only cause unnecessary stress. Gald you're doing well and not dying!
